UB Athletics
Students interested in fighting violence are invited to attend self-defense trainings offered by UB Athletics. To be eligible for these seminars, students need to have a valid UB Student Identification Card or Intramural Sports Permit Card. While participating in intramural sports, students are expected to be polite towards both opponents and staff. The University can suspend a team for misconduct, declare forfeits against both of them, or stop a contest.
These workshops can be taught by Rape Aggression Defense officers who are certified by University at Buffalo Police Department. These workshops are open to anyone who is interested in preventing sexual assault. They are also open to the UB Community at no cost. Renzo Gracie Academy
On March 19, the Greenpoint Renzo Gracie Academy branch hosted a women’s self-defense seminar. Instructor Arthan Bandeira was the guest instructor. Chen and Bandeira organized the seminar after a number of her clients requested one. The two have been training together since 2003 and practice at minimum twice per day. In the first seminar students were taught the basics of self defense.
Students are taught by 6th degree black belt Master Renzo Gracie, who was born and raised in Brazil and moved to New York in 1997.
